James Henry Meagher

One-time Jamesport resident James Henry Meagher of Southold, formerly of Hicksville and Vero Beach, Fla., died Dec. 30, 2012, at the age of 89.

Born in Astoria, N.Y., on March 4, 1923, he served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He then enjoyed a career with Grumman Aerospace as a quality control engineer, retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Kreitsek Meagher; two daughters, Janet Rogers (William) of Isle of Palms, S.C., and Kathy Meagher Hinsch (Peter) of Southold; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, June Meagher, predeceased him.

Family members recalled his love of saltwater activities, including boating, clamming, crabbing and fishing.

The family received friends Jan. 4 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 5 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, also in Mattituck, by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
