Police nab alleged suspect in Friday’s home invasion

A Riverhead man was arrested Tuesday on burglary and drug charges in connection with the last Friday’s armed burglary of a Riverhead apartment, Riverhead Town police said.

Jvon Creighton, 17, was charged with one count first-degree burglary and one count seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, officials said. He was in possession of oxycodone without a prescription at the time of his arrest, police said.

In addition, Mr. Creighton was also charged with one count false personation after he gave police a false name, officials said.

Two masked men armed with a gun and knife stormed a 22-year-old woman’s Riverhead apartment just before midnight last Friday and ransacked the residence, officials said. Police are still searching for the second suspect.

The victim was able to escape her home at 641 Doctors Path and call police at 12:19 a.m., officials said.

But when officers arrived the suspects had already fled the premises.

A K-9 was able to track the men to an area behind the apartment complex, “where it is believed the subjects got into a waiting vehicle,” according to a Riverhead police press release.

Police say the suspects made off with cash and clothing, adding that the incident was related to “illegal drug activity.”

No injuries were reported.
