Caroljane Munzel

Longtime Riverhead resident Caroljane Munzel died Jan. 15. She was 74 years old.

She was born May 19, 1938, in Roslyn, Long Island, to Carl and Toni Werner, the eldest of four children. After graduating from Friends Academy in Locust Valley and Syracuse University, she worked as a social worker.

On Aug. 19, 1963, she married John Munzel in Roslyn; they were just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they made their home in Northport until moving to Riverhead in 1968.

She is survived by her husband, John, her brother, Carl Werner, two daughters, Laura Venugopalan and Jessica Munzel, and two grandchildren, Anjali Venugopalan and Marlo Gordon.

She loved walking and could often be seen walking around Riverhead Town or at one of her favorite Sound or bay beaches.

Memorial donations should be made to East End Hospice, which so thoughtfully supervised her last days, making it possible for her to die at home. A family memorial service will be held Jan. 26.
