Cops: Southampton man threw object, shattered glass near child

A Southampton man was arrested in Riverhead last week on an outstanding arrest warrant for allegedly throwing an object through a car window where a small child was seated last year, police said.

Dewayne Riddick, 25, was arrested on East Main Street about noon last Wednesday on the warrant, according to a Southampton Town police report.

Mr. Riddick is accused of throwing an unknown object at a car window on Brown Street in Riverside about 10 a.m. on Nov. 28. The window shattered near where a 2-year-old child was seated in the car, police said.

Mr. Riddick was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He was taken to police headquarters and processed.
