Three people were taken to an area hospital Friday afternoon after two crashes in the Riverhead area, where a steady snowfall made for slick driving with a nor’easter approaching.

In one crash on West Main Street, a maroon Dodge traveling east collided with a tan Nissan traveling west about 12:15 p.m. near the entrance of Tanger Outlets, Riverhead Town police said.

The accident was caused by slippery conditions, police said.

Drivers of both vehicles were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with minor injures. A child who was in the Nissan was not injured, police said.

The West Main Street crashed happened just minutes after another car accident on County Road 49 near the Suffolk County jail.

One person was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for minor injuries in that crash, firefighters said.
