The state of emergency in Southampton Town since Friday evening has been lifted, town officials said Sunday afternoon.

Crews from the Town Highway Department, and county and state Department of Public Works are working throughout Sunday to clear the roads, according to a statement from the town.

Authorities have asked residents not to call the town to ask when their road will be plowed, urging patience as highway crews clear and salt roadways, according to the statement.

“Town Officials recognize that some private roadways still need to be plowed,” the statement reads. “However, town primary and secondary roads need to be addressed before private roads can be cleared.

Roads remain icy and slippery, officials said. Residents should avoid driving if possible and if they must travel out, should drive with care.
