Riverside man chases away burglar stealing generator

A Riverside man scared away a burglar who was stealing a generator from his front porch Feb. 12, Southampton police said.

The man said he heard movement on the deck of his Riverleigh Avenue house about 11 p.m. and went out to see what was going on, according to a police report. He saw a person trying to steal the generator from his yard. The person fled the scene after being spotted. A Riverhead police K9 unit arrived on the scene but wasn’t able to find the alleged burglar.
