Hundreds of North Forkers turned out for the annual Riverhead Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary’s winter breakfast Sunday morning.

The breakfast, a tradition for the past 25 years, is the group’s main fundraiser during the year and helps to raise money for scholarship programs and ways to help firefighters, said organizer Joanne Krajewski.

Firefighters and friends of the North Fork departments came as far as Orient Point to help support the Ladies Auxiliary, Ms. Krajewski said.

“It’s family,” she said. “That’s what we really are.”

The all-you-can-eat breakfast included sausage, hash browns, eggs and more, and the even also featured a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction for prizes like bottles of wine and bath soaps.

The event took three days to prepare, Ms. Krajewski said. While some volunteered in the kitchens cooking the food, others from the Auxiliary worked the line serving up breakfast.

The group is planning a turkey dinner event in the fall, a fundraiser that had failed by the wayside in recent years.
