Frederick John Seifert

Frederick John Seifert of Riverhead died March 21, 2013, at the age of 78.

He was born March 25, 1935, in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., to Valerie (Hageman) and Fred “Fritz” Seifert and was a graduate of Far Rockaway High School.

Fred was a Korean War veteran and a tail gunner in a sea plane. He was a true patriot who loved serving his country.

For 50 years, he was a well-known builder in the Five Towns, Brookville and the Hamptons. A Grand Master Craftsman, he was often referred to as a Michelangelo of woodworking. Building was more than a job; it was a passion and he enjoyed going to work every day.

Besides building, his family, children and grandchildren were the love of his life. Giving to others was his most precious gift.

For 40 years, he resided in Smithtown and moved to Riverhead five years ago. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, a member of the North Fork Anglers Fishing Club and the Marian Council of the Knights of Columbus in Cutchogue.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy (née Boyle), whom he married July 11, 1959, at St. Killian’s R.C. Church in Farmingdale, and four children: Mary Naja (Daniel) of Smithtown, Frederick Seifert (Cheryl) of Mattituck, John Seifert (Tara) of Laurel and Caroline Seifert of Riverhead; a brother, Robert Seifert of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren: Kyle, Daniel, Nicholas, Zachary and Hannah Naja, Calvin, Tyler, Ryan, Matthew, Julie, Abigail and John Seifert; and a great-granddaughter, Valerie Naja.

The family received friends March 24 and 25 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated March 26 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt.

Interment, with U.S. Naval honors, was at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
