Darnell ‘Perry’ Davis

Darnell “Perry” Davis of Riverhead died March 20 at age 48.

Born in Riverhead Feb. 21, 1965, to Reginald and Bertha Davis, he graduated from Riverhead High School in 1983, then attended Johnson & Wales Culinary Institute in Providence, R.I. He opened a restaurant in Washington State, then returned to New York, where he often cooked for the less fortunate.

Mr. Davis worked as a hairstylist at the Robert James Salon in Riverhead for almost 10 years and also ran a successful catering business. He was a member of Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead.

Family members said he was an all-around entertainer with a soft heart. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends, they said, and was famous for his signature parties.

Mr. Davis is survived by his mother; his brothers, Reginald Jr., of Raleigh, N.C., and Jeffrey, of Riverhead; and his sister Dorice Brown of Riverhead. He was predeceased by his father and his sister Terese.

A service took place March 26 at Galilee Church of God in Christ, Pastor Roy L. Pennon Sr. officiating. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
