Arthur “Artie” Akstin died peacefully at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport on April 6 at the age of 82.
Artie was born in Riverhead March 29, 1931, to Jacob and Mabel Akstin. He attended Southold High School and served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked on Plum Island and eventually became a self-employed painter.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Akstin, and his stepdaughter Vickie Pilles. Surviving are his stepdaughters Dana Hausen of Palm Coast, Fla., and Lisa Krapf of Sandy Hook, Conn.; and five grandchildren, Hannah, Clay and Emma Hausen and Joshua and Timothy Krapf.
The family received friends April 8 and 9 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. He was laid to rest next to his wife at St. Patrick R.C. Cemetery in Southold.
