Update: Man taken into custody after shooting, K9 search
Update, 11:45 p.m.: Police brought a man into custody shortly before 11:30 p.m. He was removed from a house on Osborn Avenue, following a K9 search performed by police officers from Riverhead and New York State.
Police had been at the scene on Osborn for more than two hours, frequently shining a flashlight at an open window in a dark second story bedroom.
Officers would not immediately comment on the arrest, though an officer told a man at the scene they were there because there had been a shooting in the area.
Update, 10:45 p.m.: Police have re-opened Raynor Avenue in Riverhead after being called there about 8:20 p.m. for reports of an “assault with a shotgun” and finding a woman with minor injuries, authorities said.
Meanwhile, several town police and state troopers had surrounded an Osborn Avenue house near Mercy Avenue in what appeared to be a related investigation.
The shooting suspect was still at large as of 10:45 p.m., cops said.
A robbery call before 9 p.m. at International Connection, a store that’s also on Osborn Avenue, was not related to the shooting, police said Monday night.
According to police, a man entered International Connection attempting to rob workers at gunpoint when a fight broke out inside, police said.
The man was apprehended by police and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with head injuries, police said.
A worker at the store, who did not give a name, said, “I’m just happy everyone is safe and we could all go home with our lives tonight.”
Monday, 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: Riverhead police have closed off a section of Raynor Avenue and were investigating other nearby scenes after reports of a shooting Monday night in Riverhead.
One woman was found injured before 8:30 p.m. on Raynor Avenue, just north of Parkway Street, and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
Police and ambulance workers were also called to nearby 435 Osborn Avenue, where an ambulance was present but left about 9:25 p.m. with no lights or sirens on.
Detectives at the second scene were investigating the inside of a store called International Connection, though it appeared the incidents were unrelated. Police left that scene about 10:15 p.m.
Riverhead police and state troopers were also on hand at a third scene, where they appeared to be investigating a house and property on Osborn Avenue near Marcy Avenue.
No arrests had been reported.
