Cops: Flanders man assaulted pregnant woman, fought cops

A Flanders man is facing assault and resisting arrest charges after he attacked a pregnant woman in a Flanders home early Sunday, allegedly punching her in the stomach and hitting her in the face several times, Southampton Town police said.

He later fought with cops as they arrested him, police said.

William Toney, 40, got into a dispute with a woman at his Ludlam Avenue home about 2:20 a.m., police said. Mr. Toney grabbed the woman by the throat and threw her down onto a couch, then grabbed her hair and “repeatedly punched her in [the] face,” according to a police report.

He then punched the woman — who is about 18 weeks pregnant — in the left side of her stomach, police said. The woman suffered a scratch on her lip and her face as well as pain to her stomach and was treated for her injuries, police said.

Mr. Toney was later nabbed in Riverhead on East Main Street, where he resisted arrest, according to a police report.

He was charged with third-degree assault and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. He is being held for arraignment, court officials said.
