Copper thieves targeted properties in Flanders, Riverside

Copper stolen Flanders Riverside

Copper pipe was stolen from two properties in Flanders and Riverside sometime last week, police said.

The owner of one of the properties, on East Street, said the house has been on sale for a year and a half, but sometime between June 21 and June 28, someone broke in through a basement door and took an “unknown amount” of copper piping attached to the water heater, according to a police report.

Detectives photographed the crime scene and are investigating the theft, police said.

Then on Thursday, a Flanders Road man said someone broke into a gated property near his house and stole about $600 in pipes and plumbing equipment, police said.

The Flanders Road house was targeted sometime between March and last Monday. Someone broke into the house through a basement door and stole a hot water heater, copper pipes and wiring worth about $600 in total, according to a police report.

Detectives are investigating both cases.
