Drunken driving, drug arrests in Riverhead over holiday week

At least five people were arrested on drunken driving or drug charges in Riverhead over the holiday week, according to town police records, though an arrest log at police headquarters didn’t list any busts for July 4 or July 5.

In the first of the recent arrests, a 58-year-old Riverhead man was arrested for driving while ability impaired by alcohol early Tuesday in town, according to a report.

Stephen Bostic’s car was initially stopped by police for making an improper turn about 2:45 a.m., police said.

Information as to where the stop was made was not immediately available.

A passenger in the car, Gayle Valentine, 49, of East Quogue was arrested for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after officers saw her drop an item on the floor of the car and officers found a piece of cocaine, police said.

Mr. Bostic and Ms. Valentine were transported to police headquarters and held for a morning arraignment, police said.

Later Tuesday night, a 24-year-old Brookhaven man was nabbed for DWI after being stopped by cops for failing to use a turning signal, police said.

Jairo Bethancourth’s car was pulled over near the intersection of Doctors Path and Main Road about 11:55 p.m., according to a report.

Mr. Bethancourth was arrested for DWI and ticketed for the traffic violation.

He was transported to headquarters and held for a morning arraignment, police said.

Early Saturday, a 37-year-old Riverhead man with a prior drunken driving offense was arrested for aggravated DWI, town police said.

Manuel Cante was arrested on Shade Tree Lane after he was stopped for swerving about 3:30 a.m., according to a report.

He was transported to police headquarters and held for a morning arraignment, police said. His vehicle was seized due to a prior DWI conviction, police said.

Early Monday, police arrested a Neri Ramirez for DWI. No other details were available on this arrest from police.
