The Riverhead Fire Department swore in new chief officers — including its newest fire chief Joseph Raynor — at its board of commissioners meeting Thursday night as family members watched on.

Mr. Raynor, who had previously served as the department’s first assistant chief, was sworn in as Fire Chief by Board of Fire Commissioners chairman Edward Carey Jr.

Mr. Raynor replaces the previous chief, Anthony White, who was elected in 2012 but resigned in late April due to person reasons.

Mr. Raynor, a member of the fire department for more than 30 years, thanked the board after he was sworn in and said he was looking forward to his new responsibilities.

“To my assistant [chiefs], I hope to do the best of my ability with your help. I’m sure the fire department is going to go in the right direction,” he said.

Kevin Brooks — who was the department’s second assistant chief — was also sworn in as the new first assistant chief, while Peter Jackman was sworn in second assistant chief from his role as third assistant chief.

Timothy Corwin was elected as the new third assistant chief and was also sworn in.
