Cops: Man caught stealing $1,500 in cash

SouthamptonPD HQ4 - 500

A robber who stole more than $1,500 from a Flanders man on his own doorstep last week didn’t make it far after driving off, as the suspect was later found just a few hundred feet away from the scene, Southampton Town police said.

The victim was pulling out a wad of cash to give to a friend outside his Flanders Road house about 3:20 p.m. when another man who had arrived with that friend yanked the cash from the victim’s hand, ran into a vehicle and “took off,” according to a police report.

According to the report, seven $100 bills, two or three $50 bills and several $20 bills were stolen.

The stolen cash was worth between $1,500 and $1,800, police said.

Police tracked the vehicle used in the alleged robbery by its license plate number, and found the vehicle just a few houses away on Flanders Road, where the robber was caught.

Police said the stolen money was recovered, but, in the end, the victim refused to press charges against the man.
