A skydiver was injured after a hard landing at Skydive Long Island in Calverton Sunday afternoon, police and the company’s owner said.

Police and ambulance workers were called to the scene at 2:33 p.m., police said.

Skydive Long Island’s owner, Ray Maynard, described the jumper as “very experienced” and added that the man was expected to be OK.

“One of our experienced jumpers made a low turn, which almost always results in injury, self-inflicted,” Mr. Maynard said of what caused the hard landing. “Looks like a broken leg. He’s conscious and fine. Everything’s good.

He said he believed the police Medevac helicopter was being used only as a precaution.

The jumper was flown out of Calverton about 3:20 p.m.
