A Riverhead man was shoved to the ground and beaten by a group of “five or six” men on Cypress Avenue in Flanders in what was described as an unprovoked attack Sunday night, according to a report filed with Southampton Town police.

The victim said he was heading home and walking near Flanders Road about 8 p.m. when a group of men approached him, police said. The men pushed him down and “ganged up on him,” punching him in the head and face, the report reads.

The victim ran from the group to a nearby street and made it safely to a Silverbrook Drive house, police said.

Police were called to the scene and found the victim had suffered minor injuries and swelling to his face.

He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment, police said.

The victim was unable to identify his attackers.

Detectives are investigating.
