Less than three weeks after being waived by the Cleveland Browns during final cuts, former Riverhead Blue Wave Miguel Maysonet was picked up by the Indianapolis Colts.

The running back who led the Blue Waves to a Long Island Championship in 2008 and earned a Hansen Award in the process was signed to the Colts’ practice squad. The AFC North team lost running back Vick Ballard to a season-ending knee injury late last week.

Maysonet will be the lone running back on the team’s practice squad, with running backs Ahmad Bradshaw, Donald Brown and Kerwynn Williams ahead of him on the depth chart on the active roster.

After all 32 NFL teams passed up on the Stony Brook University product during last spring’s draft, Maysonet was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles, though dropped shortly thereafter. Cleveland later picked up Maysonet and held him as long as final cuts, dropping the 23-year-old in late August as the team had to trim to a 53-man roster.

During the preseason, Maysonet rushed for 30 yards on 13 carries and caught three passes for 14 yards.

The Colts, who stand at 1-1 after losing to the Miami Dolphins in week two, face off against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
