Big Lots will celebrate the grand opening of its new store at 9 a.m. on Oct. 25 with an official ribbon cutting, company spokesperson Toni Fink said in a press release.

The store is scheduled to have a soft opening Oct. 17, Ms. Fink said.

Ms. Fink said the 30,000 square foot store is located in the combined space formerly occupied by B&B Furniture and Ultimate Fitness East and is in the same shopping center as Home Goods and Staples.

“For more than 40 years, Big Lots customers have relied on us to bring them a one-of-a-kind shopping experience filled with brand-name merchandise at a price they can appreciate,” said John Martin, executive vice president, chief merchandising officer for Big Lots. “We are thrilled to now be able to offer that same great value and convenience to Riverhead shoppers.”

As part of the grand opening celebration, Ms. Fink said, Big Lots district manager Rick Kominski will present Riverhead High School with a check for $1,500.

“For every grand opening, we always make a donation to our nearest school neighbor,” Ms. Fink said.

Based in Columbus, O.H., Big Lots currently operates more than 1,500 stores both nationwide and in Canada, including numerous locations on Long Island. The chain sells discounted seasonal goods, home décor, electronics, toys and one-time closeouts.
