Former Laurel resident Alberta S. Young of Riverhead died Nov. 6 at the Riverhead Care Center. She was 95 years old.
She was born in Laurel Dec. 27, 1917, to Edward and Mary Emma (Fleischman) Scholtz and, as a child, was a member of the Campfire Girls organization. Family members said she was a devoted teacher at Aquebogue Elementary School for over 25 years. She was also a member of The Riverhead Woman’s Club, Sound Avenue Grange and East End Miniature Artisans.
Predeceased by her husband, Edson H. Young Jr., she is survived by her nephew, Donald Scholtz of Laurel; her nieces, Diane Collins of Aquebogue, Linda Bird of Laurel and Ruth Doroski of Jamesport; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family received visitors Nov. 10 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service was held Nov. 11 at First Parish Church in Riverhead. Interment was at Sound Avenue Cemetery, also in Riverhead.
