Recap: Still no consensus on Community Life Center

liveblog

The Riverhead Town Board still does not have a three-member majority in support of going to public hearing on the proposed Community Benefit Use District, which is needed in order to allow the First Baptist Church’s proposed Family Community Life Center to move forward.

In a sometimes heated exchange, the board discussed the zone again at its work session Thursday and failed to reach consensus on issues such as whether it should be tax exempt or not, whether to require a certain amount of road frontage, and whether it should be required to be in the town sewer district. The board plans to again discuss the proposed overlay zone at next Thursday’s work session.

The board also heard a presentation from the Business Improvement District to have “River Fire” on the Peconic River near Grangebel Park. River Fire, which has been done in places like Providence, involves setting a bunch of small floating fire pits in the water at night.
