Police: Weekend crash in Flanders led to DWI arrest

A Riverhead man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after a car accident near Maple Avenue in Flanders Saturday night, according to Southampton Town Police.

Delfido Rodolfo Lopez-Perez, 37, of Doris Avenue was heading south on Flanders Road near the intersection about 10:45 p.m. when car side-swiped the rear passenger side of another car, police said. Mr. Lopez-Perez’s car then veered off the road into a tree.

He refused a pre-screen breath test and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he also refused to take a chemical test and was arrested on the DWI charge, police said.

He was additionally charged with following too closely and moving from a lane unsafely, and released on an appearance ticket, police said.

He’s due back in Southampton Justice Court on Jan. 8.
