Winifred A. McKavish

Winifred A. McKavish of Riverhead died Dec. 25 at Riverhead Care Center. She was 84.

She was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Riverhead to Anton and Catherine McKavish. After graduating from Seton Hall High School in Patchogue in 1947, Ms. McKavish joined the Sisters of Charity of Halifax. She was later employed as a teller at Chase Manhattan Bank and then worked for many years as a personal secretary to restaurant and hotel founder Howard Johnson and his family.

Family members said she enjoyed reading, shopping, dining and attending Broadway shows.

Predeceased by her brother, John, Ms. McKavish is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 30 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead, followed by interment at the church cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
