In a story that has so far been unconfirmed by the electronics company, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week RadioShack plans to close 500 of its 4,500 stores as part of a restructuring move.

If substantiated, it’s unclear whether the electronic store’s three locations on the North Fork — Route 25a in Wading River, Route 58 in Riverhead and Main Road in Mattituck — will be affected.

A manager at the RadioShack in Wading River said he had no comment.

An employee of the RadioShack in Mattituck also said he couldn’t comment, referring inquiries to the Texas-based company’s media relations department.

Officials there could not be immediately reached for comment.

According to WSJ, RadioShack Corp. sources interviewed didn’t know which of the company’s stores would be closing — or when, though the newspaper predicted it will happen in “the coming months.”

RadioShack generated buzz this weekend with its self-effacing 2014 Superbowl commercial, where it admitted to being “stuck in the ’80s.”

The popular TV spot made the struggling retailer’s stock surge by more than 7% in early trading on Monday, according to Forbes.com.
