Girls Basketball: Mercy, SWR playoff matchups announced

The local girls basketball playoffs start Tuesday when Bishop McGann-Mercy hosts Port Jefferson in a Class B outbracket matchup, Section XI announced Monday morning. 

The Monarchs (10-6) are one of two area teams to qualify for the playoffs, where they’ll be joined by Shoreham-Wading River.

Tipoff for Mercy’s game against Port Jefferson (7-8) is 5 p.m. Tuesday. The winner plays top-ranked Hampton Bays, the League VII champ at 16-2, on Thursday.

The No. 4 Wildcats (10-6) host No. 5 Sayville (11-7) in the Class A playoffs at 6 p.m. Friday. The winner moves on to play top-ranked Harborfields, the unbeaten League V champ at 17-0, next Wednesday.
