A 57-year-old homeless man who appeared to be intoxicated was arrested after jumping into the street in front of a police car and verbally threatening an officer last Tuesday, Riverhead Town police said.

Bobby Delain allegedly ran into the roadway in front of an officer’s patrol car about 9 p.m., causing the officer to slam on his breaks to avoid hitting Mr. Delain.

After escorting Mr. Delain out of the road, the officer found Mr. Delain was in possession of an open 24-ounce can of Corona Extra, according to a report.

While being interviewed, Mr. Delain made “numerous threats” to the officer’s safety, police said.

Mr. Delain was arrested for disorderly conduct and held for morning arraignment, according to a report.
