Cops: Contractor backed out of contract, took $50k

Southampton Town Police arrested a Riverhead contractor after a year-long investigation after he reportedly defrauded a homeowner of $50,000 in down payments.

According to police, 32-year-old William Beisler said he was going to build a garage for a Southampton homeowner through his business, W.F. Building 1.

The business was reportedly hired to construct the garage in May 2012 though after nearly $50,000 was handed over, “Beisler did no work and provided no materials to the homeowner,” according to police.

The victim reported the fraud in January of last year, and Mr. Beisler was arrested on Feb. 12 on a felony grand larceny charge. He pleaded not guilty in Southampton Town Justice Court, was released on $2,500 cash bond, and is due back in court on April 8.
