• A Riverhead High School senior and a group from Bishop McGann-Mercy High School were among the honorees in Parrish Art Museum’s Student Art Exhibition.
At a Feb. 8 reception and opening, recognition was given to Riverhead student Maria Valdivia for her mixed-media work and McGann-Mercy’s group work, “Shoes of Our Society.” The exhibit, which features work by students from several East End schools, including Greenport, Mattituck, Riverhead, McGann-Mercy, Shelter Island and the Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology in Riverhead, will be on view at the Water Mill museum through March 2.

• An article about Lillian Ball of Southold and her project “Waterwash ABC in the Bronx” appears in the February issue of Art in America. Ms. Ball’s public art project involves “capturing polluted runoff from a large parking lot and diverting it to a wetland grassland complex before returning it to the Bronx River,” according to the story, “Art for the Anthropocene Era” by Eleanor Heartney. The public can walk along a decorative walkway to a viewing area above the catchment and river. Ms. Ball worked with people from the neighborhood, including young volunteers from a local nonprofit.
