Cops: Homeless man mugged in Polish Town

Riverhead Police are seeking information after they say a homeless man was mugged in Polish Town shortly after midnight Thursday, found on the side of the road and unable to speak.

Police said they were called to the intersection of Pulaski Street and Marcy Avenue, where someone had reported that a man was found lying on the shoulder of the road with “significant injuries to the face and head.”

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance EMTs arrived alongside police, to find that the man was alert, however he was nonverbal. The man, who was identified by police and is in his early 50s, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by RVAC to be treated for facial injuries, and police said detectives responded to the scene to investigate further.

Police said the injuries are non-life threatening, though appear to be consistent with an assault.

They are currently asking anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives at 727-4500 ext. 321.
