Calverton News: Spaghetti lunch set for March 12

CALVERTON, BAITING HOLLOW & MANORVILLE

OK, cheer up. There are only 26, yes, 26 days till spring and only 15 days till daylight-saving time begins. Have I helped? Of course, the way things have been going lately we’ll probably have a white Easter. What an egg hunt that would be!

R031209_Pelis_R.jpgBest wishes for a happy 50th wedding anniversary to Baiting Hollow residents Mary and Fritz Lewin on Feb. 22. I have known Mary and Fritz for many years; they are farmers and good friends of mine. So, from your girls and all your family and friends, we wish you both a very happy day. Congratulations!

Belated happy birthday to Jimmy Niewadomski, who celebrated Feb. 17. His awesome wife, Laura, celebrates today, Feb. 20. These are their second birthdays shared as a married couple. We all wish you much happiness and lots of birthday cake! Belated wishes also go out to Laura’s mom, Paula Randall, who celebrated Feb. 9 with a great party with family and friends. Hope you had a ball. The bestest birthday wishes go to my daughter, Jamie, who celebrates Feb. 26. Now, I really don’t think any gift could top the one she got last weekend. She met and talked with Luke Bryan in Atlantic City prior to seeing his concert. I love you, Jame. Have a perfect day. Many happy birthday wishes also go to my buddy and neighbor Joan Niegocki, on the 27th. I hope your day is full of fun and lots of happiness. Love you! And, finally, to Joan’s mom, Miriam, who celebrated her birthday recently. Happy birthday to you, too!

Keep March 12 open! That’s when the Riverhead Rotary Club will host its host annual spaghetti lunch and dinner at the Polish Hall. Stay tuned for more details next time!

Black History Month at Riley Avenue Elementary School has filled the students’ minds with lots of knowledge. Recognizing the achievements of many local and national heroes, the fourth-graders have been sharing facts and quotes all month. Great job! All are enjoying a week off for winter break, but when they return the students will attend a science assembly sponsored by PARA. Then in March the Parents as Reading Partners program will take place. I love this time and I read to the children every year.

Be safe and enjoy life. To those of you who are mad at me for making it snow all the time, stop the threats. I truly can’t make it snow. Ahh, if only! Take care, bye.
