If you find yourself hankering for a hero this weekend then stop by Wading River Deli, whose owners plan to donate the proceeds made from each purchase between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday to the family of Jean and George Dalecki, who lost their Wading River home in a fire earlier this month.

“I just wanted to show the importance of community support,” said deli co-owner Thomas Rae.

Mr. Rae declined to provide an estimate as to how much money might be donated to the Dalecki’s but said Sundays are “very busy” at the deli, which is located in the shopping center at the corner of Route 25A and Wading River-Manor Road.

In the three-plus weeks since the Dalecki’s house, cars and belongings were largely destroyed by flames, the family has received an outpouring of community support.

As of Friday afternoon, nearly $54,000 had been raised for the family through an online fundraiser.

“They’re a great family,” Wading River Deli clerk Jen Gebbia said. “Jean [Dalecki] is a wonderful lady and we all like her a lot. She comes in every morning.”
