RECAP: Town Board gives special permit to sober house plan

mainstream

The Riverhead Town Board unanimously approved Mainstream House’s special permit application for a sober house on East Main Street, across from Town Hall, at Tuesday’s meeting.

Also at the meeting, one person spoke at a public hearing on a proposed new procedure for declaring snow emergencies and for banning cars from parking on the road during snow emergencies. The proposal would allow the supervisor or his designee to declare a snow emergency and would ban parking on any roadside between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. during a snow emergency, with fines for violators being at least $250 per day.

The board also had a public hearing on a proposed reconstruction of the BP gas station on West Main Street, which called for a new convenience store with a Dunkin’ Donuts counter.
