Cops: Drunk driver’s license was revoked for prior DWI conviction

A Riverhead man whose license had been revoked for driving while intoxicated was allegedly caught driving drunk again in Riverside Saturday night after a police officer saw him swerving along the road and driving “too slowly,” according to a Southampton Town police report.

Rodney Love, 48, was pulled over on Lake Avenue near Woodhull Avenue about 11 p.m., police said. An officer noticed that Mr. Love smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and was “unsteady afoot,” according to a police report.

Mr. Love failed a field sobriety test and registered a .18 percent blood alcohol content on a pre-screen breath test, police said.

His license had also been revoked for a prior DWI conviction, police said.

He was arrested and charged with felony unlicensed driving, misdemeanor DWI, a violation for marijuana possession, and several traffic infractions, according to a police report. It was not immediately clear why Mr. Love had been charged with a misdemeanor drunken-driving charge.
