A man was assaulted and robbed of cash at gunpoint as he walked on Griffing Avenue in downtown Riverhead early Saturday, town police said.
Police said they received a 911 call about 3 a.m. from a victim reporting he had been attacked by four men who were unknown to him.
The man said he walking northbound on the east side of Griffing Avenue when he was first approached just north of West Main Street, according to a report. (See map below.)
The men then punched him several times in the body, stealing about $400 before fleeing the area, the victim told police.
He was not seriously injured, police said. Detectives are investigating.
