Flanders News: Easter egg hunt scheduled for April 12

Happy spring, friends and neighbors. Yes it’s officially spring but it sure doesn’t feel like it. We get a couple of days of gorgeous weather then we get a forecast for more snow, which was forecasted for this week. I’m tired of being cold.

The Friends of the Big Duck’s annual Easter egg hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at the Big Duck Ranch. The rain date is Sunday, April 13. The event is free for all children ages 2-9. There will be refreshments, prizes and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Flanders United Methodist Church is also hosting an Easter egg hunt after its 9 a.m. service on Sunday, April 20. RSVP to 369-9884. Children ages 12 and under are welcome to participate.

The Southampton Youth Bureau is seeking to partner with local community businesses for its 13th annual job and internship fair. Businesses in need of summer or year-round staff that can provide a learning opportunity for interns are encouraged to participate in this free job fair. For more information or to obtain a registration form, call 702-2421. A registration form can also be downloaded from southamptontownny.gov/youthbureau. RSVP by Monday, May 12.

Hey, did you know the Riverhead Elks Lodge is hosting a special Friday Lenten dinner special that’s open to the public? For more information, call 727-2027. Reservations are suggested but not required.

Happy birthday to one of my best friends, Laurie McKillop-Gallo, on March 25 from me and the gang. We love you, girl! Birthday wishes also go out to Randy Gordon on the 27th; Sean O’Neil, Sandi Lopez and former Flanders resident Kim Lucas on the 29th; Patti Tocci, Denise Allen and Cornelius Trent on April 2; Laura Spano-Smith on the 5th; Meredith Halpin and one of LA’s finest, Ralph Brown (former Riverhead resident and a good friend to all), on the 8th; and Tammi Tocci, Herb Loper, Maureen Zebroski, Kristy Wilkinson and Donna Cain on the 9th.

A special happy ‘birthday’ goes to Jayden Andrew Ott, who was born March 22 weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches. The proud parents are Collin Ott, who’s currently stationed in Afghanistan, and Elizabeth Castillo. Grandmother Jeannette Ott is so over the moon. Congratulations Collin and Elizabeth and the entire Pekar/Ott/Castillo families.

Make sure to check out the Riverhead Blue Masques’ production of “The Wiz” this weekend in the high school auditorium. Showtimes are Saturday, March 29, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. The show also continues next Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, at 7 p.m. Break a leg!
