John L. Hussnatter, Jr. of Mattituck died at home April 1, 2014. He was 82.
“Jack” was born in Brookhaven July 27, 1931, to Maud (née Kaan) and John Hussnatter and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp.
Educated in the U.S. Navy and State University of New York at New Paltz, he enjoyed a career as a teacher and coach in the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District for 33 years.
He was a past member of the Mattituck Fire Department and was a member of the Island’s End Golf and Country Club in Greenport where he served as a board member and club champ.
Formerly of Patchogue, he has lived in Mattituck for the past fifty years.
Predeceased by his wife, Veronica (née West) on Aug. 1, 2011; he is survived by his children, Michael Hussnatter of Easton, Md., John Hussnatter of Mattituck and Luanne Hussnatter of Riverhead; his sister, Mae Reider of Reading, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Tucker, Kennedy, Ashley and Michael.
Visiting hours and funeral services took place on Saturday, April 5th at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck with Reverend Dr. Peter J. Kelley officiating. Military honors were rendered by the United States Navy.
