Shoreham-Wading River’s sixth annual Lax-Out Cancer event April 26 will feature some special guests: members of the professional New York Lizards teams.

Players on the Lizards will sign autographs and the team plans to donate a portion of tickets from a July 27 game to Lax-Out Cancer, the team announced in a press release.

“It is such an hoor for me and the N.Y. Lizards to be part of such a great day at SWR,” said Lizards head coach Joe Spallina, who also coaches the Stony Brook University women’s lacrosse team. “To be part of a group raising money to help those being affected by cancer is truly an honor for the entire organization.”

Spallina knows the Shoreham community well having coached lacrosse and soccer at nearby Rocky Point High School for many years.

Shoreham’s first-year coach, Justin Arini, said in the release that adding the Lizards to the event will add to the experience for many of the youth players.

“Not only do the Lizards epitomize hard work, dedication and perseverance, but they have also been home for a number of SWR lacrosse alums,” Arini said.

The Lax-Out Cancer event will feature a doubleheader with the girls and boys teams. The girls will play at noon against Bellport and the boys will follow with a 2:30 game against Mount Sinai.

The Lizards are part of Major League Lacrosse and play their games at Hofstra University and Stony Brook University.
