Cops: Riverhead man struck guard with 20 pound pole

A 32-year-old Riverhead man is being held without bail on felony charges after he allegedly assaulted a security guard with a metal pole in March, Southampton Village police said.

Southampton Village police said they received multiple 911 calls around 2:50 a.m. March 22, reporting a large fight taking place in front of 230 Elm, a catering hall on Elm Street.

Police said Jason Langhorn, who is currently on parole, picked up a metal pole weighing about 20 pounds, and struck a security guard over the head several times, giving the man a large laceration.

The security guard was transported to Southampton Hospital for medical treatment by a plastic surgeon, village police said.

Mr. Langhorn was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, and was remanded without bail, according to a report.

According to prior newspaper coverage, Mr. Langorn was nabbed in 2011 at the River Pointe apartment complex in Riverhead after cops found him carrying a loaded .45 caliber handgun, authorities said.
