PHANTOMS 8, WILDCATS 5

Lauren Petersen’s two-run home run keyed a three-run sixth inning that broke a 5-5 tie and lifted host Bayport-Blue Point to an 8-5 victory over Shoreham-Wading River in a Suffolk County League IV softball game on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was supposed to be played in Shoreham, but Tuesday’s early rains made the Wildcats’ home field unplayable.

The Wildcats (2-5, 2-5) took a 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk to catcher Caitlin Mirabell in the top of the second, but the Phantoms (4-2, 4-2) rallied with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Shoreham retook the lead on center fielder Hailey Tilton’s triple before she scored on a wild pitch for a 3-2 edge in the fourth.

After the Phantoms grabbed a 5-3 advantage with a three-run fifth, Tilton keyed a two-run rally as she doubled in a run before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Mahan to tie the score at 5-5.
