Southampton blotter: Drunk driver ran from traffic stop

A Hampton Bays man who ran from his car after being pulled over at a traffic stop in Flanders Sunday was later charged with drunken driving and drug possession, according to Southampton Town police. 

Shamir Euceda-Fernandez, 25, of Hampton Bays was stopped for failing to stay in his lane at about 3 a.m. Sunday on Flanders Road and Bay Avenue in Flanders, and then immediately started running from his car to avoid arrest, according to police.

Mr. Euceda-Fernandez was caught a short time later and found to have alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and other signs of being intoxicated, and he was found in possession of marijuana, according to police.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree obstructing government administration, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana and a host of traffic violations, police said.

• A trailer and a Jet Ski were reported stolen from a location on Flanders Road in Flanders last Thursday morning. The Jet Ski is valued at $1,200 and the trailer at $250, according to police.

• A go-kart valued at $750 was reported stolen from a home on Albany Avenue in Flanders Wednesday morning, according to police.

The homeowner said the go-kart was taken from the rear yard of his property some time between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to police.
