Wading River News: Wishing a good luck to spring sports

SWRfans

The Deli at Wading River has a large sign in its window. It reads: Good Luck SWR Wildcats Spring Sports. It is now spring, and with the change in the weather to more warmth and sun all our SWR spring teams have been picked and are working out and competing at this point. Best to you, SWR teams, and thank you, Deli at Wading River.

Good luck to all the churches that will be attended by SWR residents this week, whether it’s St. John the Baptist, St. Anselm’s, Sts. Peter and Paul, North Shore United Methodist Church, Wading River Congregational Church, St. Mark’s or St. Anthony’s in Rocky Point. These are the highest holy days of the church year and many people work hard to make the liturgies and music both holy and beautiful, from the music directors to the music ministers, the cantors, the choirs, the liturgists, those who clean and decorate the churches, and all our fabulous pastors and priests who tend to the SWR flock. I have some words of advice for anyone looking for some good food for the soul: Fast from anger and despair and feast on mercy and forgiveness.

Shoreham resident Marcia Slatkin is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated author of two poetry books and winner of two PEN Fiction awards, in addition to being a produced playwright. Five of her one-act plays will be produced April 24 to May 4 and will take place at the Producer’s Club, 358 W. 44th St., NYC, in The Sonnet Theatre. There will be nine opportunities to see this medley of five plays. Perhaps some SWR residents can make the trip into the city for afternoon performances. For information, call Ms. Slatkin at 917-597-4253, e-mail [email protected] or visit marciaslatkin.com.

It’s not too late to register for the Hope Children’s Fund Bi-Continental Cross Country 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 27 at Shoreham-Wading River High School. For more information, visit hopechildrensfund.org or call Larry Hohler at 631-473-1662 or Kevin Mann at 631-821-8184.

If you have any announcements you’d like printed in this column, please don’t be shy. My email address is above. I’d be happy to brag about a special person or help spread the word for your charity or event.

Happy Easter and Passover, everyone. Be well and I’ll see you in two weeks.
