Southampton Blotter: Driver strikes dog, drives off

An unknown driver ran over a dog in Flanders Friday and kept going, Southampton Town police said. An officer responded to County Road 104 around 9 a.m. Friday after a passing motorist reported that a car had struck a dog and drove off, according to a police report.

The dog suffered a broken leg, police said. The officer was able to speak with a cousin of the dog’s owner, who responded and took the dog to an animal hospital, police said.

• Someone broke into a home on Old Quogue Road in Riverside by climbing into an unlocked bedroom window Friday afternoon, town police said. The suspect, of which a detailed description was not supplied, entered the room and left immediately, police said.

It was unknown if anything was take, because the person who occupies the room was not present when an officer arrived to investigate.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
