Stanley W. McCormick Jr. died of cancer May 7 at his Riverhead home. He was 66.
Mr. McCormick was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Greenport to Gloria J (Magee) and Stanley W. McCormick Sr. He graduated from Mercy High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, achieving the rank of E-4.
For 20 years, Mr. McCormick worked for Riverhead Central School District transportation department. During this time, he earned a Drivers Safety award. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Family members said Mr. McCormick enjoyed golf, baseball and bowling.
He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his brother, Albert of Hastings, Fla.; his sisters Diane Hill of Weatherford, Texas and Sheryl of Riverhead; his aunt, Joan Vetter of Placida, Fla.; four nieces and two nephews.
The family received visitors May 8 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service was held May 9 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment took place at the church cemetery.
