SUFFOLK COUNTY CLASS B TOURNAMENT | GOLDEN FLASHES 9, WILDCATS 6

The Shoreham-Wading River High School boys lacrosse team will not have an opportunity to play for a Suffolk County championship this year.

The fifth-seeded Wildcats, who were Suffolk Class C champions the last two years, were eliminated by host and fourth-seeded Sayville, 9-6, a Class B quarterfinal on Saturday.

The game wasn’t as close as the score suggests.

The visitors’ performance was one of their most puzzling in years as they allowed the Golden Flashes (12-5) to grab a stunning 6-0 halftime advantage. In fact, Sayville added a seventh goal before the Wildcats (9-8) found the back of the net.

Ryan Kelly led Sayville with a hat trick. Jack Coan and Matt Selts added two goals apiece and Spencer Andrews and Justin Siracusa had one each.

Hunter Hayes and Anthony Visintin each finished with two goals and Michael Loscalzo and Ryan Bray also scored for the Wildcats, who had won five of their last six regular-season games before Saturday.

The was game expected to be a closely-fought encounter as the teams were less than two points apart in the power ratings, with Sayville (135.71) leading the Wildcats (133.51).

During the regular season, Shoreham dropped an 11-10 double overtime decision to Sayville on April 4.
