Gregory Conrad King

Gregory Conrad King of Greenport died May 2, 2014, at his home. He was 59. 

He was born Sept. 17, 1954, in Greenport to Alice (Ward) and Gerald King.

Gregory graduated from Greenport High School and Oswego University and after a short career as a music teacher, worked as a title examiner. He most recently worked for Land America in Riverhead and was a member of St. Agnes R.C. Church.

Gregory was a drummer with various local bands, most notably the Try-5, which played at thousands of affairs and weddings throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. At the time of Southold Town’s 350th anniversary, he and his fellow band members wrote the song “Children of the Future,” which was performed during that period of celebration.

Predeceased by his parents, Gregory is survived by two sisters, Geralyn Jasina of Collierville, Tenn., and Sister Eleace King of Kingston, Pa.; a nephew, Paul Jasina of Texas; a niece, Alyssa Villarreal of Tennessee; two grandnephews, Paul Jasina and Antonio Villarreal; and a grandniece, Elizabeth Jasina.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes R.C. Church rectory in Greenport, with a funeral Mass taking place at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Gregory’s name to Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Retirement Fund, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509 or John’s Place (a shelter for the homeless), c/o St. Agnes R.C. Church, 523 Front St., Greenport, NY 11944.
