Henry F. Schemitz

Former longtime Riverhead resident Henry F. Schemitz of Saratoga Springs died May 9. He was 62. 

Mr. Schemitz was born in Farmingdale and joined the U.S. Army in 1968. During his military service, he was awarded the Bronze Star for valor during his deployment in Vietnam. Most recently, he served as chief of police for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northport. He lived in Riverhead for 30 years.

Mr. Schemitz is survived by his wife, Terry (née McGlone); his family, John and Michelle McGlone, Dr. Dario and Dee Mirski, Hope Mirski, Kathy McGlone and Dr. Rhonda Felheim.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Overton Funeral Home in Islip. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery.
