William L. Sypher

Former Riverhead resident William L. Sypher of East Quogue died June 2 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 78. 

He was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Riverhead to Helen Young (Harris) and Edgar L. Sypher. Mr. Sypher married Doris M. Bergen in 1956 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead.

Mr Sypher served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, achieving the rank of private first class. He was employed by South Fork Asphalt and a member of Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 1298.

He is survived by his wife, Doris M. of East Quogue; his children, Mark E. of Quogue; Kevin of Ronkonkoma; Roxanna and Karen of Riverhead and Charlotte; his siblings, Roxanna Parker of Riverhead, Orville of South Jamesport and Ronald of Connecticut; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Friday, June 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a prayer service will take place at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will take place Saturday, June 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.
