The North Fork Animal Welfare League is hosting two events this month to ensure your pet stays healthy.
In collaboration with the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, NFAWL, which operates shelters in both Southold and Riverhead, will host a mobile spay/neuter clinic at its Southold shelter on Friday, June 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Puppies or kittens must be at least 10 weeks old and weigh at least two pounds in order to participate.
“This is a very important way to protect our animals and serve our community,” said Gillian Pultz, executive director of the organization. “The need is there and the league is committed to staying on top of this issue throughout the year.”
Appointments can be made by calling the shelter, located at 269 Peconic Lane in Peconic, at (631) 765-1811.
NFAWL will also be offering free rabies vaccinations at it’s Riverhead shelter on Sunday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Shots are offered in conjunction with the county Department of Health, and pet owners are encouraged to bring copies of previous rabies certifications, according to a release.
Vaccinations are offered on a first come, first serve basis. Dogs must be on leashes and all cats and ferrets must be in carriers.
The Riverhead shelter is located at 532 Youngs Avenue in Calverton. For more information call (631) 369-6189.
